Omak, 1910
TitleOmak, 1910
PhotographerMatsura, Frank S.
DescriptionMatsura shot a picture of Omak from a bluff (or "bench" as locals called it) of land. No person is visible save a lone cowboy, bringing a stray cow up from the banks of the Okanogan River. The land on which the town developed came from twenty acres of the farm of Mr. Ben Ross--the first white man to settle at Omak. The town was incorporated in 1907, after persuading Father Etienne DeRouge to change the name of the nearby Indian mission's post office from Omak to St. Mary's Mission.
