Chinese men working in a Columbia River salmon cannery
TitleChinese men working in a Columbia River salmon cannery
CreatorAndrews, Wesley
DescriptionChinese workers at a Columbia River salmon cannery. Hundreds of salmon cover the cannery floor. The growing canneries of The Dalles and Astoria attracted a great number of Chinese workers to Oregon. By 1880 approximately 4,000 Chinese resided in Clatsop and Columbia Counties many of which were drawn by canneries and the increase of railroad construction.
