| Title | Dr. C.K. Ah Fong, 1893 |
| Description | Potrait of Dr. C.K. Ah Fong, an Idaho doctor who practiced Chinese medicine. The photograph was taken in Rocky Bar. Ah Fong moved his practice to Boise in 1894. Ah Fong was born in Canton China sometime in the 1840's. He came to Idaho in ca. 1866 and became a popular herbal physician. In 1900 Ah Fong filed a suit against the Idaho Board of Medical Examiners who refused him a license to practice medicine despite the fact he held a license from 1887-1897. The board acted on a 1899 law requiring United States citizenship and a degree from a recognized college before issuing a license. The Idaho State supreme court ordered the case to be heard in the Ada district court, where Ah Fong won the right to practice medicine. Ah Fong died in Boise August 19 1927 (at the age of ca. 83). |
