DescriptionThe certificate of marriage for Charles and Polly Bemis.
The certificate reads: This is to certify that on this 13th day of August 1894, I have joined in the holy bonds of matrimony. Chas. A Bemis and Miss Polly Nathoy at the residence of C.A. Bemis.
Charles Bemis was a mining camp gambler who arrived in Warren, Idaho in 1865. Polly (China Polly) was a dance hall girl from San Francisco who later became a goldsmith. Charles proposed marriage to Polly after she spent two weeks nursing him back to health from a bullet wound he received in a robbery attempt at his home. Photograph donated by Sister M.
